Vermont winery & vineyard Open House weekend!

by Gregg on Aug 19, 10

The wineries and vineyards in Vermont are holding an open house this coming weekend. Yes, we have wineries and vineyards and they’re producing some award winning products. When the doors open this weekend, you’ll be sure to find some fun activities for families including wine tastings!

Here are a few highlights of what to expect.

  • Jim Hillis at Hillis’ Sugarbush Farm & Vineyard tells me they will have fresh JerseyMac (apples folks, not an iMac from Hoboken) for pressing. This means fresh apple juice samples will be given out. It also means apple juice to be used in a new batch of wine. If you take a tour, look for Jim’s new press (44 gal) and tanks (400L). He just got them this week.
  • Bob Livingstone at East Shore Vineyard tells me they’re setting up a canopy for tastings and will have vineyard tours on both days. Hours will be 11AM to 5PM.
  • Christina at Fresh Tracks Farm informed me the Open House weekend coincides with the Grand Opening of their new tasting room! Congrats!! Be sure to check it out. I took at look at it in late July and it was beautiful (even in it’s unfinished state) and well suited to conversing over a glass of vino.
  • An email newsletter update from Boyden Valley Winery says they’re offering free tastings all day both days of the open house. They’ll have tours at 11:30 & 1pm and a “French Gourmet” Cheese Plate. And for this weekend 10% off all cases at the winery.
  • Mark & Nichole at Artesano Meadery are having a grand inauguration of their new meadery. Hours will be 12PM to 8PM.
  • The folks at Eden Ice Cider Company tell us that they’ll have free tours and tastings from 11AM to 6PM both days and a special treat – a Charleston celebration with live music, food and local wine and beer on Sunday afternoon – adult admission of $5.
  • Sara at Lincoln Peak Vineyard and Winery let us know they’ll have live music at what they’re calling “Summerfest with Gypsy Jazz” on the 21st from 2PM to 5PM. On Sunday at 2PM they will have a wagon ride through the vineyard and tour of the winery upon return. AND they’ll be celebrating the release of their 2009 Marquette (they’re very excited about this) to boot!
  • Gail at Shelburne Vineyard says they’ll offer free tastings with purchase of a bottle of wine ($4 otherwise and you get to keep the tasting glass). Mach’s Pizza will be on-site with oven making flat breads and selling them on Sunday. Shelburne Farms cheese tastings and for sale both days. Hours 11AM to 5PM.
